YouTube Thumbnail Downloader
Download the thumbnail of any YouTube video in HD and other resolutions. Just paste the link.
About this tool
This tool grabs the thumbnail image of any public YouTube video in every available resolution — from full HD (1280×720) down to the small preview. Paste the video link and download the size you need.
How to download a YouTube thumbnail
Copy the URL of the video (the normal youtube.com/watch?v=… link, a youtu.be short link, or a Shorts URL all work) and paste it in. The tool reads the video ID and shows the thumbnail in each resolution. Click download to save it. You can also paste just the 11-character video ID.
Why grab a thumbnail
- Researching competitors' thumbnail styles before designing your own.
- Re-using your own video's thumbnail in a blog post or playlist.
- Creating link previews and presentations.
Resolutions explained
HD (maxres) is the highest quality but isn't generated for every video; if it looks blank, use the HQ version, which always exists. The tool reads the public thumbnail URLs directly from YouTube's image servers — no login or API needed. Please respect copyright and only reuse thumbnails you have the right to use.
Frequently asked questions
How do I download a YouTube video thumbnail?
Paste the video URL (or its 11-character ID). The tool shows the thumbnail in every resolution — click download to save the size you want.
What is the highest resolution available?
Full HD at 1280×720 (the "maxres" thumbnail). Not every video has one; if it appears blank, use the HQ 480×360 version, which is always available.
Does it work with youtu.be and Shorts links?
Yes. Standard watch links, youtu.be short links, Shorts, embed, and live URLs are all supported, as is pasting the bare video ID.
Do I need an account or API key?
No. Thumbnails are read directly from YouTube's public image servers, so no login, API, or sign-up is required.
Can I use any thumbnail I download?
Thumbnails are owned by their creators. Download for personal reference or your own videos, and get permission before reusing someone else's.
